Hi! I’m Keri, your dog’s new best friend. My husband Dan and I love welcoming doggies of all shapes and sizes into our home, and take pride in caring for them as if they were members of our own family.
The safety and wellbeing of your dog is our primary concern, which is why we are both trained in canine first aid and CPR. We carefully vet all dogs before they come to stay, with all home boarding dogs completing a 24 hour trial stay before any longer booking is confirmed. This is to ensure that they are happy in our home, can settle at night, and are relaxed and not anxious, stressed or reactive when around a group of other dogs.
A typical day starts off with a group walk which may be in a variety of locations. New doggies will be kept on a long line initially and may be walked in an enclosed area until a good level of recall is established. Then we spend the afternoon at home together with lots of playtime and cuddles for the rest of the day. I communicate regularly with clients throughout the day, so you will always know what adventures your dog is getting up to!
We have two of our own dogs, Tina who is a Bedlington Terrier, and Lyra who is a Romanian rescue dog. These two join in on group walks throughout the week, and their calmness and confidence at home can set the tone for new and uncertain dogs, helping them to settle in more quickly.
The first stage is for me to meet you and your dog for a little ‘get to know you’ session. This takes place at your home, as I like to meet doggies for the first time in an environment where they are calm and comfortable. During this session I will ask for information on your dog’s health and behaviour. I will also need to see a copy of their up to date vaccination record at this time.
After the initial meeting, then we will book your dog in for a trial day for daycare clients, or a trial overnight stay for boarders. It is important that you are contactable during this time, in case of the unlikely event that the dog needs to be taken home early from the trial. This would only generally occur in situations where I feel there is a safety issue, or if there is incessant barking which can be very difficult to manage.
Following a successful trial stay, your doggy will be an official part of the Sandbarks family! Due to high demand, it is highly recommended that dates are booked in as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
